16 page booklet + book design
2019

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

A publication about sampling and remixing the Egyptian and Assyro-Babylonian Mythology with Herman Hesse, The Talking Heads and Donald Duck. The starting point were few loose pages I got from Bart’s Laurousse Encyclopedia of Mythology, which I then broke apart and constructed them a new meaning.

+ afterwards

A book collecting all of the other entries for the assignment, together forming a new version of the Encyclopedia.

LIFT YOURSELF

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

A1 Poster, 4 colour screen-print
2019

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

A poster based on the Myth of Sisyphus by Albert Camus, as well as the pitfalls of a product-centric lifestyle, the isolation felt by a foreigner, Kanye West, and the tension between the analogue and the digital.

A self-initiated project which was all about putting previously acquired screen-printing skills into a more considered piece.

FAREWELL TO THE SOURDOUGH

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

2 x 2 meter flag print
2019

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

A flag describing a set of actions of a funeral procession for a raw sourdough, previously cultivated from a mix of wheat and rye flours.

The design was preceded by artistic research into fermentation, industrial food production, relation between performance and artist's statement, and all of the other fun stuff, culminating in a series of visual essays.

Exhibited at the Royal Academy of Art on 13th December 2019.

7 minute video installation
2019

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

A video based on previous research into artworks mass-consumed through social-media, mainly Jeff Koons' Balloon Dog and Yayoi Kusama's Pumpkin. My aim was to envision a lush, fantastic landscape of Internet hyperreality.

Supplemented by Brian Eno’s Discreet Music, and quotes from The Society of the Spectacle, by Guy Debord.

A1 poster, screen-print
2019

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Screen-printed poster constructed from a collection of typographical readymades. While collecting, I was trying to challenge what I would consider to be good and bad taste, and observe the differences between the things I was attracted to, and my own designs.

A book that collects a number of my artists that inspire me, correlated through the six degrees of separation rule.

With a strong presence of DADA related content, I have curated the book’s contents by updating Tristan Tzara’s method How To Make a Dadaist Poem to the digital age.

I have made my computer listen to the Art of Noise (first of the steps), and using Processing made it come up with a sequence of numbers, with which I used to order bits and pieces of texts.

Extended monospace typeface
2019

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

The name Emilia comes from a 1960s modernist building which was built in Warsaw first as a furniture shop, then in the early 2000s it was refurbished and used as an exhibition space for the Museum of Modern Art, only to be demolished to make space for a more profitable sky-scraper.

Having a personal connection to the building, because of an internship I have done with the Museum, I have tried to reflect some of its qualities, or of Polish modernist architecture in general—a sense of brutal roughness, combined with a quirky fragility.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

A series of animations which served as an expansion and solidification of my abilities to code in Python.

The aim was to move through sketches quickly, and develop new ideas and approaches with a fast pace, and build a backbone of knowledge along the way.

OUT OF THE HAT

16 page newspaper print
2019

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

A publication where I used a seemingly random group of images and began arranging objects in combinations that challenge reason and summon subconscious and poetic associations.

Because of the newspaper print, the typical reading sequence is also distorted, and spreads can have a double meaning.

"Talent is a pursued interest. Anything that you're willing to practice, you can do."
—Bob Ross

A book for which I have collected articles, photographs, master theses, short notes or quick drawings of my friends and family.

The goal was to accentuate personal voice and specificity, as opposed to highly polished but generic content, easily available everywhere on the internet.

Plaster Sculpture + Textile Print
2019

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Can you experience art only through the Internet? What kind of memory does that leave behind? How would a physical manifestation of that fabricated memory look like?

Based on our research into artworks mass-consumed through social-media, especially Instagram, we focused on the (in)famous polka pumpkin by Yaoi Kusama.

Using photogrammetry and hundreds of scraped photographs of the pumpkin posted on Instagram, we constructed a 3D model, an average, an approximation of the theoretical pumpkin.

Then, using laser-cut moulds and plaster, we brought the Frankenstein’s Monster of Instagram to life—together with a blanket of its digital texture.

Hello Dear Visitor,

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

I’m a Polish graphic designer, based currently in Netherlands at the Royal Academy of Art in the Hague (otherwise known as the KABK).

As you might have guessed already, this is my portfolio website. Please enjoy your stay.

My main interests as a designer are incidentally the same as the website’s categories: editorial, posters and type design with a touch of coding in between.

Don’t hesitate to get in touch!
